  3. Audi Selling Cars From Its Heritage Fleet

The price is right and the condition is sweet.

If the internet has taught us anything, it’s that people will gravitate and buy all manner of weird, sometimes-maligned cars and take fantastic care of them. That’s certainly the case with this Audi 100 2.0 E Avant that’s up for sale in the UK. But “amazing care” doesn’t even begin to describe its backstory. This five-door wagon spent the last seven years as part of Audi UK’s Heritage Fleet and has been strictly maintained by the automaker during its time there. It’s certainly no RS6 Avant, but it’s also a fraction of the price.

The Audi 100 features a 2.0-liter five-cylinder engine that produced 115 horsepower when new. This quirky engine is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, which sends its modest output to the car’s front wheels. At the time, the 100 competed with the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz W124, making it somewhat of a flagship for Audi.

Just one person owned the car before Audi coddled it for the last several years. Purchased new from Listers Audi of Coventry, the car stayed with its first owner for more than 20 years, where it picked up most of its 47,000 miles.

Though it’s far from the spotless garaged cars we see hitting auction blocks, the vehicle is in immaculate condition. Thanks to Audi UK’s efforts, the car’s Quartz Grey Woolcord cloth upholstery is spotless, and its simple steering wheel looks completely unused. It’s a pleasing, airy era-correct interior with absolutely nothing out of place.

As far as buying random, not-so-collectible cars from the 1990s goes, you can’t get much better than this. Sure, the 100 was an important car for Audi but there’s nothing extraordinary about it. That said, it’s in fantastic condition, and what a neat story behind it. It’s also cool that Audi grabbed an example with miles, so the buyer can drive it without guilt.

It’s unclear why Audi UK is cleaning house, as we’ve seen other models in its Heritage Fleet that have come up for sale or auction in recent weeks. There was a 100 sedan that recently sold on eBay (pictured above), and a dealer in the UK has two up for sale right now: A 1976 100 LS sedan and a 90 CD sedan. All of the cars have been meticulously maintained by Audi, and most have actually been driven, making them excellent choices for weekend drivers.
