Coming to 2022 and newer vehicles.
Cars are becoming more connected than ever, taking all the services you love on your mobile phone and integrating them into the dashboard to lessen distraction. Audi just revealed a series of updates for its 2023 lineup, but not included in that announcement is a new feature coming to nearly all 2022 Audi models in Europe, North America, and Japan. These cars will gain access to integrated Apple Music through the Multi-Media Interface (MMI) via an automatic over-the-air update.
This update will allow owners to stream Apple Music from their accounts using in-car internet data. Streaming will not require a Bluetooth or USB connection to your phone, meaning you don’t need excellent cell reception. The full 90 million-song catalog is available completely ad-free.
“Integrating Apple Music into the Audio infotainment system marks the next step in the collaboration between Audi and Apple,” said Christiane Zorn, Head of Product Marketing at Audi. “For our customers, it means that we are offering them direct access to their own personalized listening experience. This is our understanding of a premium digital in-car experience. At Audi we are systematically driving the digitalization of the vehicle and we are convinced that the interior is increasingly developing into a third living space.”
To activate the service, drivers need only open the app on the infotainment system, follow the on-screen instructions, and log in using their Apple ID. The car will then send a verification code to the phone to finish the setup.
Audi says the addition of Apple Music will better allow customers to enjoy their curated audio experience, which is finely tuned for each model. For example, the 16-speaker B&O Premium Sound System with 3D sound in the 2022 Audi e-tron GT makes drivers feel like they are sitting on-stage with their favorite band. If you currently own a 2022 or newer Audi, you can look forward to this upgrade hitting your dashboard soon.
