All-New 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Joins The Bolt Family

Chevrolet first teased updates to its Bolt electric vehicle back in mid-2020 when it announced the expansion of the Bolt lineup with a new SUV model. Today, the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt and 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV have made their long-awaited debut. The 2022 Bolt is a facelift of the existing model that was introduced in 2016, while the Bolt EUV is an all-new model that offers different packaging.

“The new Bolt EUV is the best of the Bolt EV packaged in an SUV-like vehicle with more technology and features, giving customers more choices and reasons to switch to electric,” said Steve Hill, vice president of Chevrolet. “This is an opportunity for Chevy to capitalize on the success we’ve built with the Bolt EV and bring new customers into the Chevy family.”

Both vehicles utilize a permanent magnetic drive motor powered by a 65-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, yielding 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque going out through the front wheels only. The driving range remains the same, with the standard Bolt achieving 259 miles on a single charge. Chevy says the Bolt EUV has a slightly shorter 250-mile range due to its increased height, length, and weight.

While range and power may not be improved, Chevy focused its efforts on making charging easier. A new dual-level charge cord is included as standard with the Bolt EUV and optionally on the Bolt, meaning owners will no longer need to purchase a separate charger for their home. The dual-level cable includes a standard 120-volt three-prong outlet for Level 1 charging and a 240-volt outlet for Level 2 charging up to 7.2 kilowatts.

Chevy says both models now offer up to 11 kW Level 2 charging, but separate equipment is required. On a public DC fast charger, the Bolt can add 100 miles of range in just 30 minutes, while the EUV can add 95 miles.

The Bolt and Bolt EUV share an architecture, but the two wear different styling and boast different dimensions. In fact, no exterior sheet metal is shared between the two vehicles, and the EUV is six inches longer overall. Both versions include Chevy’s bold and athletic styling, though the EUV features a more muscular design with a specific front end.

SUV styling changes made to the Bolt EUV include a center crease line that runs from the front fascia through the hood, seamless horizontal body lines, and standard roof rails. The Bolt receives updates, too, in the form of new front and rear lighting signatures.

The Bolt and Bolt EUV are also the first Chevy models to feature Super Cruise. This feature will enable hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of road in the United States and Canada. Both models also include ChevySafety Assist as standard, bundling automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, following distance indicator, IntelliBeam, and front pedestrian braking.

Most impressively, Chevy has managed to lower the price on the Bolt without eliminating any key features. The 2022 Bolt starts at $31,995, while the 2022 Bolt EUV costs $33,995 (including destination freight charge) before any state, federal, or local incentives. Chevy will also offer a fully-loaded Bolt EUV Launch Edition for $43,495. Both will be available this summer.
