Acura’s cool new ad campaign for the 2022 MDX kicks off with several historic race cars making an appearance.

After entering production last month, the all-new fourth-generation 2022 Acura MDX is arriving in US dealerships on February 2 boasting an athletic, bold new design inspired by the gorgeous Acura Precision Concept and a more luxurious interior. To celebrate its arrival, Acura is launching a new commercial campaign showcasing the SUV’s athletic looks, performance, and towing capability.

Set to the rousing soundtrack of Queen’s “Tear It Up,” the campaign looks back at Acura’s racing and performance car history, highlighting how the MDX shares the “same DNA” as the original 1991 NSX, 2001 Integra Type R and the 2021 NSX.

In other words, Acura wants you to know the MDX drives like a sports car thanks to its double-wishbone front suspension and new light truck platform. Several historic Acura racers make an appearance, including the Comptech Spice Acura GTP Lights driven by Parker Johnstone who won three consecutive IMSA Camel Lights Driver’s Championships from 1991 to 1993, as well as the IMSA Championship-winning NSX GT3 Evo.

We then get to see the 2022 Acura MDX tearing up the track, highlighting its improved performance and handling. Under the hood is a 3.5-liter V6 producing 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Continuing Acura’s “Less Talk, More Drive” campaign that started with the Acura TLX Type S, a separate advert shows the 2022 MDX towing an NSX supercar on a trailer, demonstrating its towing capability when equipped with optional towing accessories. With all-wheel drive, the new MDX has an impressive towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, while the 2WD variant has a capacity of 3,500 pounds. You’ll get to see these ads on broadcast, digital, and social media platforms, including cable and during live sports events such as the NBA, NCAA and March Madness match-ups.

While the standard 2022 Acura MDX is arriving in dealers this month, the more potent Type S variant is expected to arrive in the summer, packing a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine rated at an estimated 355 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque.
