Its bolder styling is inspired by the original Pathfinder.
Launched in 2013, the current-generation Nissan Pathfinder was a radical departure from its predecessor. Whereas the third-generation model was an off-road capable, rear-wheel-drive SUV, its successor was a sedate four-wheel-drive crossover riding on a unibody platform. Its transformation was mocked, earning it the nickname “Mallfinder.” For the new fifth-generation model, the Pathfinder has been redesigned with more rugged styling inspired by the original model. Make no mistake, however: this is still a family crossover rather than a true off-roader. But while the new Pathfinder doesn’t return to its off-roading roots, its more aggressive exterior is a massive improvement.
Redesigned from the ground-up, the new Pathfinder has a larger front fascia, a wide stance, and a shorter front overhang, giving it a bolder presence than the outgoing model.

Styling cues from Nissan’s current design language also bring the Pathfinder in-line with the automaker’s newer models, including a V-motion, three-slot grille as a homage to the original Pathfinder, C-shaped headlights, and a floating roofline. LED headlights and slim upper daytime running lights come as standard. At the rear, the new Pathfinder sports slimmer LED taillights and a “boxed out” liftgate inspired by the first Pathfinder incorporating a prominent satin chrome “Pathfinder” name.
14 exterior colors and color combinations are available, including five new two-tone available for the first time in the Pathfinder’s history. A two-tone Scarlet Ember with Super Black Metallic replicates the original Pathfinder’s bright red color, while the new Obsidian Green Pear finish is a solid dark green with a hint of pearl.

Under the hood, the 2022 Pathfinder is powered by the same 3.5-liter direct-injection V6 as its predecessor, producing 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. While the old model’s engine carries over, it’s paired with an all-new nine-speed automatic transmission replacing the sluggish CVT. An optional 4WD system features direct coupling allowing torque transfer directly on the clutch pack using oil pressure to increase traction. Available driving modes include Standard, Sport, Eco, Snow, Sand, Mud/Rut, and Tow. Larger tires and a new dual-pinion electric power steering system provides more stable handling and a sportier feel.
With a maximum towing capacity of 6,000 pounds, Nissan claims the new Pathfinder boasts the best towing capacity in its class, enabling it to tow boats, ATVs, camp tents or trailers.

The spacious cabin has room for up to eight occupants, with second-row captains chairs available for the first time and a 60/40 split-folding third-row seat. With all three rows up, there’s enough cargo space to store a 20-quart cooler or four golf bags. Thanks to the acoustic laminated front glass, thicker second-row glass, increased door, and floor isolation, and a 60 percent increase in engine noise absorption, the interior is significantly quieter for a more relaxing environment.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all trim levels, while available tech includes a wireless smartphone charging pad, wireless Apple CarPlay, and a premium audio system with 13 speakers.
