Extreme off-roaders wanted.

We’ve always been huge fans of the Hilux, Toyota’s wildly popular mid-size truck sold outside of North America. The equally highly regarded Toyota Tacoma (also pictured below) is for American and Canadian customers. And like the Tacoma, the Hilux can go just about anywhere and, when properly equipped, it can tackle even more extreme conditions, such as traveling to the Arctic.

Meet the seriously badass Toyota Hilux Arctic Trucks AT35, a tough new all-terrain off-roader featuring major chassis, suspension, handling, and styling upgrades. Toyota has worked with Arctic Trucks for over 30 years and this latest collaboration involves the latest Hilux generation, beginning with a 2.8-liter Invincible X Double Cab.

Ground clearance was increased by 2.6 inches and the approach and departure angles by nine and three degrees, respectively. Particular focus was placed on re-engineering the truck’s frame, inner arches, and bodywork in order to accommodate the 17-inch Arctic Trucks alloys wearing beefy 35-inch BFGoodrich KO2 All-terrain tires. Additional medications include a Bilstein performance suspension system with front springs and dampers. The anti-roll bar adjustment and rear dampers with extended shackles have also been upgraded.

All told, the improved suspension provides an additional 1.6 inches and 0.8 inches of lift front and rear, respectively, compared to the base truck. The front and rear differentials have also been tweaked for improved torque delivery.

Exterior add-ons include a flare package for the front and rear wings, extended-profile side steps, and unique badges celebrating AT’s 30th anniversary. A rear height bar with an integrated two-inch receiver hitch is another handy feature. Under the hood lies the stock 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel rated at 201 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, and paired to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Hilux AT35 conversion is performed by Arctic Trucks and all come with the automaker’s five-year/1,000-mile warranty. Orders are now underway at Toyota UK dealerships for the Invincible X Double Cab beginning at £18,780, about $25,000 at the latest exchange rates.
