It’s good, but it’s not a $146,000 truck.
There are a lot of competitors for the crown of most talked about car or truck of the year so far. Ram’s Ford F-150 Raptor competitor, the 1500 TRX, is certainly part of that conversation. GM’s habit of stuffing the Dodge Challenger Hellcat’s 6.2-liter supercharged V8 under the hood of a different vehicle has paid off again, and the result is a 702-horsepower truck that will thrash the 0-60 mph sprint in under four seconds. The first TRX rolled off the assembly line in December last year, and ridiculous dealership markups were inevitable. The first crazy markup we’ve spotted has the TRX priced at $146,785 by University Dodge Ram in Florida. The MSRP price range is $71,690 to $90,265.

The Launch edition is the $90,265 model and is absolutely loaded with options. Even adding options not included, like a tire rack and a couple of Mopar accessories, we only managed to run the price up to $96,590 including the $1,695 destination fee. With as many boxes ticked as possible, that’s still a $50,000 markup. A patient buyer could wait, or find a dealer not adding obscene markups, and buy a Ram 1500 TRX and Laramie together, and still save themselves $10,000.
That $50,000 markup is the highest we’ve found, and as ludicrous as the Ram TRX’s 12 mpg combined fuel economy rating from the EPA. There’s also quite a few TRX models being advertised around the $116,000 to $123,000 mark. However, there are dealers advertising on AutoTrader for close to MSRP, which gives us hope.
We suggest patience if your heart is set on picking up a TRX. It’s not a limited production model like the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, which will be limited to a six month run with only 2,000 models built.
