Stellantis has started ChatGBT integration, with a six-month pilot phase starting with select DS Automobiles models.
In Europe, Stellantis has announced the implementation of ChatGPT for the group’s DS Automobiles models, making it easier to keep the kids happy or keep yourself entertained on solo drives.
ChatGPT is a generative artificial intelligence model that can compose detailed essays or code, but it’s the human-like conversational capabilities of the tool that will change the way drivers interact with their cars. Already, Mercedes-Benz has integrated the tech into its own infotainment system, but the many brands under the Stellantis umbrella could see it filter through to US models from Ram, Dodge, Jeep, and Alfa Romeo in the not-too-distant future.
For now, Europe’s DS Automobiles will feature ChatGPT in a six-month pilot phase for the first 20,000 users who register with the DS Iris infotainment system. So, how will the tech benefit drivers?

Complementing more conventional speech recognition tools in DS Automobiles models, ChatGPT turns the infotainment system into more of a companion for the driver. Its ability to process and quickly learn from large amounts of data helps the tool converse with the driver fluidly while providing detailed answers to questions. It can also complete tasks.
The driver begins the interaction by saying “OK Iris” or pressing a button on the steering wheel. In the video example above, the system can be prompted to tell an exciting story to keep kids entertained on long trips. You can also ask the system for recipes, cultural gems, quizzes, or for more information on a place you’re visiting at your next destination. The possibilities are endless.
Considering that the design boss for DS has a disdain for touchscreens, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that an advanced tool like ChatGPT, requiring only natural speech, has made it inside the brand’s cars.

We can envision many other helpful scenarios when and if, the system becomes available on local Stellantis models. For Jeep Wrangler owners on their way to the Rubicon Trail, for example, the system could be used to learn more about the famous 4×4 route before you arrive. For less experienced drivers, ChatGPT could feasibly assist with what to do if you need to change a tire.
Promisingly, Stellantis hasn’t only chosen the most expensive models from DS Automobiles for the ChatGPT pilot, as the group includes the DS 3 supermini. Hopefully, this means the tech won’t be reserved for only high-end Stellantis cars.
By integrating the tech now, Stellantis is getting a jump-start over key competitors. Earlier this year, General Motors was said to be investigating the feasibility of ChaptGPT in its vehicles.
