Information is limited to a headlight and a hashtag for The Quail reveal.

The reveals for Monterey Car Week are coming in like a tidal wave. While many are predictable or others too numerous to create as posts, Bugatti has dropped a bit of a bombshell during the week of the event itself. On the Bugatti Instagram page, there is a new concept that isn’t much more than a daytime running light, a couple of overly contrasted front fascia lines, darkness, and suspenseful music.

Bugatti will reveal the hypercar at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering event this Friday, August 19th at 1:20 PM EST (10:20 AM PST) after that, the mysterious Bugatti will likely be on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday.

But what exactly is this mystery Bugatti? Well, the experts here at CarBuzz predict that Bugatti will release some sort of La Voiture Noir-inspired Roadster. You read that correctly, as Bugatti has always maintained there will be no roadster ever produced for the Bugatti Chiron and that future product is integrating with Rimac EV as well.

“Unlock an icon. 19 AUGUST 2022 | 10:20 PDT. The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering,” is all that Bugatti has offered in its Instagram post. We reached out to Bugatti for more information, but the company’s Instagram post is all that has been released to the media and its followers. The Instagram caption was made in all CAPS and we were hunting for clues in the video reel and in the hashtags and we think we found very important pieces of information.

First of all, there is the $18 million La Voiture Noire, a one-off Bugatti sensation that found one lucky buyer in an incredible low-volume effort for the Molsheim, France-based company. The front daytime running lights are certainly inspired by the Chiron-based La Voiture Noir and variants will continue with similar design language. While we have to respect Bugatti stating directly to CarBuzz that there will be no Chiron Roadster, there is nothing to say that they can’t release a concept that might gauge interest in Bugatti changing its stance on an open-top version.

There are further clues, and they lie in the hashtags Bugatti used. Note the use of #OpeningUpNewHorizons hashtag that only has Bugatti Grand Sport and Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse pictures using it (well, along with a strange yoga pose). That says to us that the upcoming Bugatti is a roadster as this latest Instagram post is simply the latest in the series of them. We also wrote recently about how Bugatti was reflecting on owning the top speed record for a roadster for 10 years now and even further mention of open-top Bugatti products as of late.

This short Instagram video doesn’t define much and naturally, the internet is wild with speculation. At the same time, we at CarBuzz connected the dots here, so if a roadster debuted at The Quail on Friday, you heard it here first. The wildcard is there haven’t been many details about the Rimac EV tie-in, could there possibly be new design language or chassis considerations for Bugatti’s EV future?
