It’s based on the Dallara IR-12.
The 2022 Indianapolis 500 will kick off this weekend on Sunday, May 29, much to the excitement of IndyCar fans across the country. Save for the event itself, racegoers will be able to catch a glimpse of the brand new Chevrolet Corvette Z06; the high-performance sports car will serve as this year’s pace car.
To celebrate the historical race, Amalgam Collection has created a rather spectacular tribute to the Indianapolis 500. The British model car crafters have released a highly detailed replica of the Dallara IR-12 chassis. Measuring 24 inches in length, this 1:8 scale recreation is the spitting image of the real thing. Amalgam has modeled the IR-12 Chassis with the IR-18 Aero Kit and finished it in the NTT Indycar Series livery.

Those hoping to get their hands on an example should know it comes with a hefty price tag. According to the company’s website, this piece of automotive art will set buyers back $10,475. While race fans and collectors will be able to order the example you see before you, Amalgam is offering teams and team sponsors the opportunity to purchase custom-built models finished in their respective liveries.
Company founder Sandy Copeman highlighted the sheer attention to detail that goes into creating these pieces. “The extensive details included in these models reflect the enormous number of highly skilled hours going into the creation of each piece.” He added, “we are confident a significant number of collectors and fans will wish to add a perfect scale IndyCar model to their collections.”

Copeman’s statement isn’t just marketing drivel. His company is responsible for building the most desirable model cars available today. Earlier this year, a few of Amalgam’s pieces went up for auction, where one Ferrari SF90 Stradale recreation was expected to sell for as much as $16,900. Amazingly, some models can cost as much as $20,000.
If, however, the $10,475 price tag affixed to this gorgeous IndyCar is too rich for your blood, you’ll be pleased to know that Amalgam is also working on smaller IndyCar collectibles. There’s no mention of price as yet, but we expect the miniature sculptures to come in at a more palatable price when released in July 2022.
“We have long had the desire to work with the most important and historically significant motor racing series in North America, and we are proud to have been offered the opportunity to partner with Indycar,” added Copeman.
