The successor to the DMC-12 is less than a month away.
Are you tired of seeing the classic DeLorean butchered by hotrodders who can’t stop doing blasphemous engine swaps? Do you yearn for a modern return of the DMC name? Well, you’re in luck, as DeLorean is making a comeback. The brand has been teasing a new EV of late, but has now given us a new teaser, and importantly, a reveal date for the all-new model.
We’ve been waiting for this Hollywood legend to make its return to the stage, and in less than a month, the new car will be here. We’ve been covering progress on this exciting project for a while, and the DeLorean Motor Company recently gave us one of our best peaks yet at the new machine. DMC yesterday posted a sneak preview of the new car’s rear-end on Instagram, followed shortly by a countdown timer showing 26 days, seven hours, 59 minutes, and 58 seconds. We’ve already set a Google reminder.

We’ve seen glimpses of the new EV’s rear-end before, but this short teaser has us all hot and bothered. The slim, full-width taillight design and window louvers remind us of the iconic Ferrari Testarossa and are a superb throwback to the era of the original DMC-12. We do know that the front end will look nothing like that wedgy piece of Italian art, however, and we’re fine with that.
The official launch was originally set to take place on Thursday, August 18 at the Awards Ramp at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. But the new timer suggests we’ll see a digital reveal at the end of May, followed by an in-person viewing experience at Pebble Beach.

The new DeLorean will not be a mass-produced vehicle: along with a limited run of around 50 to 100 original DeLorean vehicles, the new car will also be produced in small numbers, and we expect the first batch to sell out as soon as orders open.
Other than the few sneak peeks we’ve received over the past few months, very little is known about the new DeLorean’s powertrain, range, or standard features, but the company has promised it will be a driver’s delight. We’re hoping it’s a capable EV sports car, and if it can give the Lotus Evija a run for its money, it’ll be a sweet little throwback to Colin Chapman’s involvement in the original.
