  3. Very Special Lamborghini Huracan STO Celebrates Major Milestone

Talk about a runaway success.

As the penultimate Huracan variant ever, the recently revealed Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica is something pretty special, sitting atop the Evo and below the STO. There have been quite a large number of Huracan variants over the years, but with an especially steep asking price for any, one might think that not too many have been produced. However, there are more rich people in this world than you might imagine, and they love Lambos. In fact, so many have been sold that the 20,000th example has just rolled off Lamborghini’s production line. A Huracan Super Trofeo Omologata was the car in question and was ordered by a Monegasque resident who specced Grigio Acheso Matt (a shade of matte gray) for their special supercar.

“The Huracan has delivered an evolution of design, technological know-how, driving adventures, track records, and sales records since its launch,” said company CEO Stephan Winkelmann. “It was designed as a car to provide super sports emotion in every environment, from daily driving to thrilling performance on track. Every iteration of the Huracan has stayed true to that Lamborghini philosophy.”

So how many iterations have there been exactly? Over the last eight years (the Lamborghini Huracan launched in 2014), 12 road versions and three racing models have been created. 71% of buyers chose coupes and the biggest market has been the US, where more than 32% of all Huracan versions have been delivered. The UK and Greater China markets fill the top three.

In 2014, the Huracan LP610-4 arrived with its 5.2-liter V10 sending 602 horsepower to all four wheels. The following year, the LP580-2 arrived with less power and only the rear axle being driven. In 2016, the Huracan Performante arrived to claim the Nurburgring record for production cars. Three years later, the Huracan EVO arrived, available in both AWD and RWD configurations. Each of these debuted as coupes but Spyder versions followed later. That trend changed last year with the first Huracan STO before the Tecnica debuted this month. Like the STO, a convertible version won’t be happening.

Lamborghini has also created a Huracan Polizia for the Italian that delivered a transplant organ from Padua to Rome, a distance of 303 miles, in just over two hours. The Huracan also spawned its own one-make racing series and will finally close production with an offbeat, off-road-focused Sterrato version. It’s been an epic, sonorous run, and we yearn for its replacement to be just as special. With V8 power likely, our hopes are not high.
